Five arrests have been made in an extortion and robbery investigation, which targeted a 33 year old woman.
The victim had allowed a couple of family acquaintances, both 16 years of age, to stay at her home, but when they overstayed their welcome, they were asked to leave.
It’s alleged the girls demanded money from the woman, and when she refused, she was attacked.
When she noticed unauthorized purchases were made from her bank account, she froze that account.
It’s further alleged the girls, together with another 16 year old girl, an 18 year old woman and a 27 year old man, also family acquaintances, forcibly confined the woman and took her to a few financial institutions to obtain loans.
An employee at one of those institutions notified police about a suspicious interaction, and the group was tracked down and arrested.
Charges for the 16 year olds who can’t be named due to their age, 18 year old Alexandria Batchelor of Toronto and 27 year old Gilbert Monney of Brampton include robbery, forcible confinement and extortion.
