According to federal officials there are at least two Canadians who are among the 233 people killed following the 7.8 magnitude earthquake in Ecuador.
The families of the victims are to be contacted by Global Affairs Canada after what was the worst quake to strike the country since 1979. They are also asking the friends and families of those who are travelling to Ecuador to contact their emergency response centre.
Homes and buildings have been brought down and turned into rubble and there were a total of 580 people who were injured.
Thousands of rescue workers have been deployed in the region with more than 3,000 packages of food and roughly 8,000 sleeping kits that are being delivered.
