Current and former Canadian leaders from across the political landscape came together Saturday to show their respects following the death of former cabinet leader Jean Lapierre and wife Nicole Beaulieu.
Lapierre, his wife Nicole and several family members perished in a plane crash on Magdalen Islands back on March 29th while en route to be with Lapierre`s following the death of his father.
Some of the nation`s prominent political leaders who were on hand for today`s service included former NDP leader Tom Mulcair, former Bloc Quebecois leader Gilles Duceppe, former Prime Minister`s Brian Mulroney and Paul Martin along with current Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
Trudeau said that the country has lost a strong political figure who was committed to his work and work tirelessly for the public.
Lapierre served as Minister of Transport from 2004-2006 before resigning from politics on January 11th 2007.
He was 59 years old.
