The biggest danger and cause of fatalities on the road in Ontario is now distracted driving, not impaired driving. And people just don’t get it.
A company from Israel has introduced the “textalyzer”, and New York is considering creating a bill to allow police to use it. It’s like the breathalyzer but instead of testing if someone is under the influence, the textalyzer determines whether someone has been texting behind the wheel during the time of an accident. This would provide legitimate proof for cause.
However, as always, there are liberty groups complaining that it would be an invasion of privacy. What should we be more concerned about? Privacy or safety? Do we need this in Ontario?
