The Toronto Zoo may once again have a monorail.
An Edmonton company called Magnovate has proposed to build a magnetic levitation train.
The company’s CEO told the Toronto Star, the zoo wouldn’t have to pay anything for the new attraction. It would be financed by a mix of government and private dollars.
Dan Corns calls the proposal a win-win for the zoo and his company. He says the zoo would get a new ride and Magnovate would get a chance to prove there is a demand for maglev trains on a larger scale right across Canada.
If the Toronto Zoo management board moves forward with the proposal the maglev train would be built using existing infrastructure from the zoo’s old monorail.
It was shut down in 1994 after a serious accident.
Maglev trains use magnetic levitation to move vehicles without touching the ground.
