One person has died after two people were trapped in a vehicle near Sandalwood Parkway and Hurontario Street in Brampton after being struck by a freight train.
Peel police say both suffered serious injuries but a man in his 80’s was airlifted to a Toronto trauma centre in serious condition while the other victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
It happened around 10:30 a.m. and Peel police closed Sandalwood Parkway between Hurontario and Van Kirk for several hours as emergency officials and the Major Collision Bureau investigated.
Police say the crossing doesn’t appear to have the barrier to block traffic but there are clearly marked lights and bells warning of a passing train.
