Dr. Brian Rotenberg, professor at University of Western Ontario, has suggested that Ontario adopt a model that requires patients to “self-pay” for procedures. He says Ontario lags behind other provinces when it comes to this approach.
Ontario physicians are left to decide whether a medical procedure is necessary.
Rotenberg told the Toronto Sun’s Christina Blizzard HERE that treatments for lung cancer or broken bones are without question necessary, but questions some cosmetic surgeries that are in high demand. If rhinoplasty be deemed a necessary surgery because of the impact that a crooked nose has on somebody’s quality of life?
Rotenberg also wondered if taxpayers who smoke or drink excessively shouldn’t pay more into the healthcare system. People who enjoy vices and risks pay more for insurance.
Do you think either of these suggestions would fly in Ontario?
