U.S. fed court judge hearing a lawsuit against the NHL by former players this week unsealed a large number of 2011 sensitive emails exchanged between NHL execs, including one in which NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly tied fighting in hockey to concussions, depression and “personal tragedies” (suicides included?) NHL argues players should have deduced consequences of repeated brain trauma. The players argue the league’s interest was profits and not player safety.
Why the hell is the NHL still permitting bare knuckles head-hunting during hockey games?
Here’s my guess. At least half the ‘men’ supporting and in favour of two big and conditioned athletes pounding away at each other’s heads have themselves never been in a fist fight….and would back away from any hint of another male challenging them to “settle it.” Agree?
