Seven people have died following a plane crash in the Îles de la Madeleine, just off eastern Quebec.
The small plane, which was privately owned went down in bad weather on approach to the airport on the island.
It has now been confirmed that former former federal cabinet minister and political pundit Jean Lapierre is among the dead.
Lapierre was travelling to the island with his wife and three other family members to attend his father Raymond Lapierre’s funeral.
Two crew members are also among the dead.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is among those expressing their sympathy to the Lapierre family.
Shaken by the sudden death of the Hon. Jean Lapierre on the Îles-de-la-Madeleine. A great loss to the political world.
