York Police have charged 3 people after a home exploded in Markham last week and sent 6 people to hospital.
Police say the home was being used for a drug production lab where THC resin was being extracted from marijuana.
Emergency crews responded to the scene on March 15 after the explosion and fire at a home on Douglas Haig Drive near Steeles and McCowan.
A 30-year-old man at the scene was transported to hospital with serious injuries. A 26-year-old woman and three children, a three-year-old boy, a two-year-old girl and a three-month old girl, were taken to hospital for minor injuries.
One YRP officer, who was among the first on scene, was also taken to hospital for minor injuries related to smoke inhalation.
Damage to the home along with the two adjacent homes is estimated at about $1.5 million.
Three people have been charged including the parents of the three children but they won’t be identified to protect the identity of the children.
A 30-year-old man, a 26-year-old woman from and 27 year old Jian Jim Lin have been charged with arson with disregard for human life, 3 counts of arson causing damage to property, trafficking cannabis and producing cannabis.
The 30-year-old man will be appearing before the Ontario Court of Justice in Newmarket on March 24.
The 26-year-old woman will appear on April 15 and Jian Jim Lin will be appearing on April 26.
