Protesters with Black Lives Matter Toronto will be speaking Wednesday morning about the Provincial announcement regarding carding.
Proposed carding regulations have been passed, and will come into effect New Year’s Day 2017.
Activists say the new rules fall short of eliminating the controversial practice altogether, and they don’t incorporate most of their concerns, including deleting previously collected data.
The group will also discuss the what they have called the recent police violence at their protests.
Some of them have been camped out, outside of police headquarters, for several days now but on Monday night, they say police punched, shoved and physically assaulted some of them.
They say they want the name of the officer of who shot and killed Andrew Loku last summer to be released, despite the SIU decision to clear the officer of any wrongdoing.
They’re also looking for a review to be completed of the SIU, and to return Afrofest to a two day celebration.
