Peel Police have confirmed that an elderly woman who was removed from a car which plunged into the Credit River in Mississauga on Monday afternoon has died.
According to Peel Regional police, the vehicle crashed into the River just west of Stavebank Road, near Lakeshore Road and Mississauga Road, at about 4:20 p.m.
Peel Police Marine Unit, firefighters, paramedics and an Ornge air ambulance were on the scene for a time as efforts were made to pull the car from the water.
The car was eventually removed from the river at around 5:30 p.m., after police attached a hook to the the submerged vehicle and used a tow truck to pull it out.
The woman who was in the submerged vehicle for more than an hour was transported to hospital without vital signs.
Her death was confirmed on Monday night.
Investigators have now confirmed that despite best efforts from EMS and hospital staff the elderly female has passed away.
