Total daily ridership has more than doubled on the Union Pearson Express since Metrolinx reduced one way fares.
The Crown transit agency estimates there are about 5000 users per day since regular fares were dropped from $27.50 per one way ride to just $12.00.
The increase in numbers, about 3,000 riders a day, began almost immediately after the fare reduction, last Wednesday.
Metrolinx says more than 80% of riders are travelers taking flights out of Pearson, while the remaining were commuters.
The UP Express has failed to meet its ridership goals since it was unveiled last summer.
In light of low ridership, the province announced the price will drop in February with the hopes boosting ridership.
