The office of former Mayor Rob Ford has released a statement on Thursday evening stating that ”with his family beside him,” Ford is currently in hospital continuing his battle against cancer.
In the brief statement, the family asked for ”privacy during this difficult time,” and ”thanked the people of Toronto and around the world for their ongoing prayers and support.”
The statement came following rumours which began to circulate on social media on Thursday afternoon, suggesting that the Councillor had died.
The family say that should there be any developments, a further release will follow.
Ford has been battling a rare from of cancer known as liposarcoma since the fall of 2014.
Following months of chemotherapy, he underwent major surgery to have a tumor removed from his abdomen in May of 2015.
However, it was confirmed in October of last year that the cancer had returned, with two new tumors discovered on his bladder.
Please keep Rob Ford in your prayers tonight.
