A Mississauga woman who ran an unlicensed day care facility has been found guilty of manslaughter, following the death of a child in her care in 2011.
The verdict was handed down to April Luckese at a Brampton courthouse on Monday, in connection with the death of 14 month old Duy-an Nguyen.
Paramedics were called out to the scene in January of 2011, where they found the child unconscious, Nguyen had suffered a fractured skull and bleeding in the brain.
She died two days later in hospital.
April Luckese initially testified that the child was injured when Luckese tripped and the little girl’s head hit a banister.
However, during the trial, the crown alleged that Luckese inflicted the injury that killed the little girl, and had failed to provide the necessities of life.
She later admitted that she had shaken the girl, and recanted her original story.
Luckese remains on bail until sentencing on May 9th.
