A study by Simon Fraser University is raising awareness of the effects of cigarette butt litter, and they want tobacco companies to be held responsible.
Over 5 trillion butts accumulate every year worldwide. over 66% cigarette butts are discarded around the smoker, and they end up in landfills and drains, which results in costly cleanup. What’s worse is they can cause grass fires – the Vancouver fire department recalls that one week they saw 35 grass fires caused by the butts.
Do you think tobacco companies should be responsible to clean up after their product?
