The Toronto police officer who discharged his fire arm into the engine block of a suspected stolen car in the distillery district made a brief appearance at a police tribunal on Tuesday.
Constable Tash Baiati has been charged with insubordination under the Police Services Act, and will return to face a disciplinary hearing into his conduct on April 19, 2015.
The incident was highly publicized as it was caught on video and shows Baiati firing more than a dozen shots into the engine block of the stolen Toyota Camry after cruisers had boxed it in.
The driver of the vehicle, Edward Michael Skotnicki, 60, was eventually taken into custody and faces a number of charges including theft over $5,000 and dangerous driving.
Baiati, who was a Canadian Forces reserve in Afghanistan, remained on duty after the incident.
