A 31 year old Toronto man is facing charges in relation to a human trafficking investigation.
According to police, a 26 year old woman was introduced into the sex trade by the suspect and taken to several hotel around Toronto, where he rented rooms and took photographs of the victim and posted them on an internet escort site advertising sexual services.
It’s alleged that the suspect would also monitor calls and text messages from potential clients and book the times with the woman.
It is further alleged that when the woman said the she no longer wanted to work in the sex trade and expressed a wish to return to her family, the suspect refused and began to beat and threaten her.
It’s said that he then forced her to have sex with more clients and turn over all the money to him.
Police became aware of the situation when the woman was able to make her escape on Monday, February 29th and approach uniformed police.
later that day 31 year old Damion Sinclair was arrested in connection with the investigation.
He is now facing 10 charges in total, including trafficking in persons by recruiting, trafficking in persons by exercising control, withholding or destroying documents, material benefit from sexual services, assault, and forcible confinement.
Police believe there may be other victims and are urging anyone with concerns to come forward.
