A winter storm watch for much of the GTA has now been upgraded to a winter storm warning.
The advisory from Environment Canada comes the day after record setting warm temperatures in Toronto on Sunday.
According to the national weather agency, the snow will begin midday Tuesday and intensify into the evening hours with the heaviest amounts falling on Tuesday night. Between 2 to 5 centimetres is expected in Toronto during the afternoon hours, and then an additional 10 to 20 centimetres during the night. Strong northeasterly winds along the Lake Ontario shoreline could see gusts up to 70 kilometres an hour at times.
The snow should end by Wednesday morning.
In addition to Toronto, winter storm warnings have also been posted for Mississauga, Milton, Burlington, Hamilton, and Niagara.
Areas west of Hamilton, including London, are under snow fall warnings.
