The Toronto Zoo is showcasing their new polar bear cub on Saturday.
Juno, born on Remembrance day, will be moved to the Polar Bear House and visible to the public for select times.
Named after Juno Beach, a code name given to Canadian soldiers’ participating in the Allied invasion of Normandy in 1944, the cub was given the name during a ceremony Thursday morning at the Zoo attended by Canadian Armed Forces Brigadier-General David Patterson.
Juno was one of two female cubs born at the Zoo in November.
Her twin sister did not survive the first day, and Juno had to be moved to intensive care in a weakened condition.
The Zoo’s Wildlife Health Centre has since been able to nurture the cub up to a healthy 10 kilograms.
