The Toronto Maple Leafs have traded forward Shawn Mathias to Colorado in exchange for forward Colin Smith and the Avalanche’s 4th round pick in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft.
The 22-year-old forward has registered 13 goals and 21 assists in 54 games this season for the San Antonio Rampage, which is Colorado’s affiliate team in the American Hockey League.
Smith was also named to the AHL All-Star Western team in 2013 when he had 106 points in 72 games.
The Maple Leafs are currently riding a three-game losing streak following a 5-4 overtime loss to the Philadelphia Flyers at the Air Canada Centre on Saturday night.
Toronto will look to get back in the win column on Tuesday when they host the Nashville Predators at 7:30 p.m. ET.
