A work to rule campaign has been launched by the city’s inside workers, following a lack of progress at talk between union reps and the city over the weekend.
CUPE Local 79 President Tim Maguire made the announcement on Sunday evening, saying that he was disappointed with the slowing of the pace in negotiations, following two deadline extensions and no resolution.
Maguire said the “work-to-rule” campaign which came into effect at 12.01 a.m. on Monday morning, will not lead to service disruptions, while City services such as daycare centres and permit services will continue to run.
The move will see workers will take all breaks but refrain from any extra duties beyond their job descriptions.
Talks between the union and the city will continue on Monday however.
Meantime, the union representing the city’s outdoor workers reached a tentative agreement on Friday.
Those workers include, garbage employees, snow plow operators, paramedics and park staff.
