Monopoly, the classic 81-year-old Hasbro board game, debuted a huge change at the New York Toy Fair 2016 this week. The Monopoly Ultimate Banking edition scraps all paper money and introduces banking cards instead, along with an ATM machine in the role of a banker.
Players will now be able to purchase homes and pay rent by scanning the bar code on a property card and then tapping their own credits card on a handheld card reader.
The new version of the game will hit store in the fall, retailing for around $25 USD.
Will this teach kids to be responsible in the future with money they can’t see? Or does it take away from the beauty of Monopoly being a battery-free game?
