The Internet Child Exploitation unit with York Regional Police have charged a 40 year old man with luring a child through social media.
Donald Richards of Bowmanville appeared in court on Tuesday charged with luring a person under the age of 16 by means of telecommunication.
In November of 2015, the mother of a 12 year old boy came forward revealing inappropriate chats on her son’s social media accounts.
The boy was contacted on Facebook by a person posing as 25 year old Jennifer Jackson, who regularly complimented the 12 year old on his appearance and requested personal photos .
Eventually the chats became sexual in nature.
After some digging by York Regional investigators, it was determined that the profile was fake and was actually that of a 40 year old poser.
Investigators executed a search of the suspects residence via a warrant last Thursday, and confiscated a number of electronic devices.
Police believe there may be more victims and have released a photo of the fake Facebook profile.
