A shooting in the small community of Lac-Simon, near Val D’Or and about 500 kilometers northwest of Montreal has left two dead, one a police officer.
Two officers responded to a domestic dispute on Saturday night, upon arrival the two faced at least one shot fired at them.
Quebec provincial police officer 26-year-old Theirry Leroux, who had only been a police officer for six months, made it to hospital, only to succumb to his injuries not long after.
A civilian 22-year-old Raymond Papatien found inside the house where the altercation took place, died from a self inflicted gun shot wound.
The second officer was also injured, but his injuries were not life threatening.
The Ministry of Public Safety and the provincial police have launched an independent investigation.
