The Progressive Conservatives have won the provincial byelection in the riding of Whitby-Oshawa.
Lorne Coe, who was a regional Councillor, will now represent the area at Queens Park.
The Tories have held the riding since 1995.
The seat was last held by Christine Elliott, who resigned last summer following an unsuccessful leadership bid, and before that, her late husband Jim Flaherty held the seat for more than 10 years.
Preliminary results show Coe with about 50 per cent of the vote, with the Liberal candidate Elizabeth Roy second and the NDP’s Niki Lundquist third.
