The cab taxi cab protest planned for this weekend has now been called off.
A representative of the United Taxi Workers Association of the GTA stated cabbies were planning a massive protest this Friday during evening rush hour. Paul Sekhon–the head of the newly formed UTWA– said this morning his group had received permits from police for their protest, which was to begin on Highway 427 heading east to Air Canada Centre. However as of 1pm Wednesday afternoon, members of the Taxi Association changed their minds after speaking with Toronto councillors. The Taxi Association is still seeking an injunction against the ride sharing service, wanting Über to shut down completely.
Gail Souter, the owner of Beck Taxi, joined John earlier to tell listeners Beck Taxi is not interested in disrupting Friday’s commute.
