Alberta Health Services says a Calgary tattoo parlor has not been following proper sterilization and sanitation processes. Those who have gotten tattoos by Ryan Kinsella from ‘Discount Tattoo’ (located at 244 7A St. N.E.) may have been exposed to viruses, including HIV, hepatitis C and B.
The parlor has been closed and will re-open once the business is capable of providing tattoo services in accordance with all legislation and regulations in Alberta.
Dr. Judy MacDonald, medical officer of health in Calgary, explained that “it is the responsibility of all tattoo facility operators, whether residential or otherwise, to ensure all regulations are met and operations are compliant […] This applies not only before opening a tattoo operation, but also while operating, always”.
If you or someone you know has gotten tattooed there, call Health Link at 811 to get tested.
