Taxi cab drivers are planning to cripple the city before NBA All-Star weekend, which will be followed by Family Day.
There were groups of cabbies who came together in Rexdale on Sunday night to create the newly formed United Taxi Workers Association. They say that a massive strike will take to the streets of Toronto on Friday, February 12th and they plan to interrupt traffic on routes heading into the downtown core, like the Gardiner Expressway and Don Valley Parkway.
Taxi drivers are still angry that city councillors were in support of a move by Mayor John Tory that halted urgent court action against Uber.
Tory held a news conference this morning at 11 a.m. pertaining to the kick-off for NBA All-Star week, where he stated that taxi drivers won’t be helping their industry by striking before a busy weekend in Toronto.
Shift Drivers don’t recognize any organization called United Taxi Workers Association,Neither we are part of it nor do we support.@JohnTory
