On March 1st, an Edmonton salon will mark another milestone in the march towards full gender equality.
Adara Hair and Body Studio will start charging for haircuts based on the length of time it takes to trim a head. Gone will be a charge based solely on gender.
Salon co-owner Jennifer Storey told CTV News that the move is “all about equality”.
Currently, women’s cuts started at $55 per, with a men’s cut factoring in at $35.
Toronto salon Fuss Hair Studio was one of the first in Canada to make a similar change to the traditional pricing model. Men were paying a flat rate of $45, with women forking over $60. Now the price swings between $45 to $85, depending on how long your hair is.
Should gender-based pricing be outlawed entirely in Canada?
