Corus Entertainment is expanding into the live events business.
“Corus Live” will start with a two-day country music festival in July that’s associated with its CMT specialty TV channel.
Corus Entertainment owns AM640 CFMJ.
CMT Music Fest will take place on Friday, July 8th and Saturday, July 9th at Bingemans grounds in Kitchener.
Multi-Platinum selling and seven-time Grammy nominee Eric Church will headline the festival on Friday evening and multi-Platinum Grammy winning powerhouse stadium act Zac Brown Band will take over the main stage on Saturday.
Andrew Hyatt, Cold Creek County, Kira Isabella, Leah Daniels, Lindi Ortega, Meghan Patrick, The Road Hammers and The Washboard Union also join the lineup, with additional acts to be announced.
“As Canada’s home for the best in country music, CMT is thrilled to announce this festival with an incredible lineup of performers,” said John MacDonald, Executive Vice President, Head of Corus Women and Family. “Fans will enjoy the full CMT experience first-hand, celebrating their love of country music in the best way possible: connecting with good friends, great music, all at a spectacular summer event.”
Situated on Bingemans Grand River grounds in Kitchener, CMT Music Fest will offer a wide range of features for concert-goers, including a local farm-to-table approach with a mini-food market, on-site general store and much more.
Additional events with Corus’ brands will be announced in the future.
Tickets go on sale to the public on Friday, February 5 at 10 a.m. through www.cmtmusicfest.com
The Corus Live announcement follows a $2.65-billion deal for Corus to buy Shaw Media.
That deal is expected to close by May 31st, giving Corus Entertainment additional specialty TV channels and the Global conventional television network.
