Advance polls for a provincial byelection in Whitby-Oshawa are now open.
People living in the riding will be able to cast an advance ballot until 8:00pm, Friday, February 5.
The byelection is to fill the seat left vacant when former MPP Christine Elliott resigned last August.
Elliott, the widow of former federal finance minister Jim Flaherty, quit provincial politics after losing the Progressive Conservative leadership election to Patrick Brown in May.
Brown beat Elliott by a decisive margin of 61.8 per cent to 38.2 per cent, despite Elliott’s overwhelming support from Tory MPPs.
Ten candidates registered to run in Whitby-Oshawa, including Elizabeth Roy for the Liberals, Lorne Coe for the Progressive Conservatives , and Niki Lundquist for the NDP.
The official election date is Thursday, February 11th.
