A 69 year old driver is dead after two wheels came off a transport truck and one smashed into the window of an SUV on Highway 400.
The man was airlifted to hospital with life threatening injuries around early Wednesday morning. Ontario Provincial Police later said he succumbed to his injuries in hospital.
OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt says the transport truck was travelling southbound on the 400 near King Road, around 9:15 a.m. when two wheels came off and bounced into the northbound lanes.
One of the wheels struck the top of the vehicle smashing the windshield and the roof.
The Highway was closed in both directions for a time this morning and early this afternoon to facilitate a police investigation.
The deceased has not been publicly identified, but police believe he is a 69-year-old man from Burlington.
The investigation will now focus on the transport truck and it’s maintenance records.
Hwy400 NB at King Road closed for collision investigation. Updates to follow…
