Multiple relatives and friends in La Loche say the 17-year-old charged with fatally shooting four at his school was bullied repeatedly throughout his childhood.
His large ears were often a target of taunts by classmates.
During his attack on La Loche Community School friday, he was reported to have dared students to tease him about his ears. He also passed over classmates who had treated him with kindness over the years.
Perry Herman, who knows the accused, said that the teen “was a normal boy. He was not a monster. He was hurting.”
“If we had supports we needed, this would not have happened,” Herman added.
