With no Olympic bid in the foreseeable future, Hogtown is considering a bid for the 2025 World Expo.
What is the World Exposition, you ask? It is a giant fair held every five years in a different country, with 169 member countries showcasing their nations through different pavilions. The exhibits usually have a central theme of importance internationally, and some city councillors feel the Expo would be a great “global marketing opportunity for Toronto.” You may remember Montreal hosting the Expo in 1967, as well as Vancouver in 1986. The cost to host the Exposition would be in the range of $1-3 billion.
Should Toronto host the World Expo? Or is this just another waste of taxpayer dollars?
