Mayor John Tory is to meet with officials from Paris today, to discuss a potential bid for the 2025 World Expo.
The World Exposition which is overseen by the Paris based Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) is held every five years in a different city, with the 2020 Expo scheduled to take place in Dubai.
If Toronto were to host the event in nine years time, it’s predicted that the event would attract some 40 million visitors over a six-month run.
It’s thought the event would also provide a major boost to the economy, with a 2014 Ernst & Young report suggesting that $8 billion could be generated in Toronto alone.
The cost of hosting the event is estimated at being between $1 billion and $3 billion.
According to Mayor John Tory’s office, no decision on whether to put a bid forward will be made until February, while a formal bid would have to be made by November 2017.
