If you’re booked on a flight to DC, New York or another eastern US destination in the next couple of days, you may want to check your flight status.
Some planes out of Pearson International & Billy Bishop downtown were cancelled due to a massive winter storm that the U.S. National Weather Service believes could rank near the top 10 to ever hit the region.
The Greater Toronto Airports Authority says around three per cent of incoming flights and four per cent of outgoing flights have been cancelled, and recommend travellers check Pearson’s website for anymore potential flight abandonments.
Plenty of snow has already hit areas from Georgia to New Jersey. With road accidents reported in the thousands in the last 48 hours, nine deaths have been recorded with forecasters saying the worst is yet to come.
The National Weather Service calling for heavy snow and strong winds creating “life-threatening” conditions. Five U.S. states have already declared a state of emergency.
More than 60 centimetres of snow is expected in some areas, with Baltimore and Washington expected to see the most.
