The flag at the legislature in Quebec City will be flying at half-mast Friday, to commemorate the funeral of Rene Angelil.
The funeral service for Celine Dion’s late husband will be held in Montreal Friday afternoon. Angelil died of throat cancer last week at the age of 73.
The service will be held at Notre-Dame Basilica, the same church where Dion and Angelil were married in 1994. It’s also the same church where Dion greeted several hundred mourners at a viewing on Thursday.
Archbishop of Montreal Christian Lepine will preside over the ceremony, which is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. eastern.
Dion and Angelil had three children – René-Charles, who was born in 2001, and twins Nelson and Eddy, who arrived in 2010. A celebration of Angelil’s life will be held in Las Vegas, Feb. 3 at Caesars Palace.
Friday’s funeral service will be the first of two Dion will attend in a span of four days. Her brother Daniel died of cancer two days after Angelil. His funeral will be Monday, in the Dion family’s hometown of Charlemagne, just outside Montreal.
