As the jury in the trial of Constable James Forcillo continue their deliberations, a new poll finds most Torontonians believe the officer did get a fair trial.
The poll, by Forum Research, found 57% were in favor of that statement, while 15% disagreed.
A full 43% say the officer never should have been charged.
Forcillo has pleaded not guilty to charges of second degree murder and attempted murder in the death of Sammy Yatim.
The 18 year old was shot and killed on an empty streetcar in July of 2013.
“It is among Forcillo’s supporters that the belief he hasn’t received a fair trial is strongest, and also among those who trust police in general. There is a culture of loyalty at work here among those who uphold the law and those who support them.” – Dr. Lorne Bozinoff, President/Founder of Forum Research.
