Former Toronto Councillor Doug Ford called in to The Oakley Show this morning to offer his opinion on the drastic changes mayor John Tory has made to the Scarborough subway extension.
The city confirmed Thursday that instead of receiving three subway stops, Scarborough will see only one at Scarborough Town Centre. The rest of the Scarborough TTC line will be serviced by light-rail transit, serviced by 17 stops.
This new approach will provide Scarborough with a “stubway”, pleasing the councillors in favour of seeing transit extended into the borough, while addressing the city’s financial concerns. An estimated $1 billion will be saved by axing two stops from the extension, money that will be used to fund the rest of the SmartTrack plan.
