Jean Levesque. Maurice Richard. John Robarts.
Rene Angelil, Celine Dion’s husband and manager, will join the list of Canadian who have received a national funeral service.
The 73-year-old, who died of throat cancer on January 14, will be honoured with a public visitation in Quebec, followed by a funeral service Friday to mark his life and career.
The period of mourning will begin Thursday afternoon at 2 p.m. at the Notre-Dame Basilica in Old Montreal (where Angelil and Dion were married in 1994), with the funeral starting at 3 p.m. the next day.
One opinion piece in the newspaper compared Angelil to musical greats like the Beatles’ manager Brian Epstein.
Do you think Rene deserves a national funeral service?
