National headlines made by Edmonton school teacher Lynden Dorval in 2012 when he refused to stop issuing zero marks to students who failed to turn in assignments. Dorval was fired, but an adjudication board determined he was terminated without cause. The Edmonton Public School Board sought a ‘with cause’ termination ruling from the Alberta Appeals court which on Thursday decided Lynden Dorval was indeed fired without cause. His severance was approved and pension topped up, although reinstatement was not supported by the court. EPSB decision to go to the Alberta Court of Appeal paid for by the taxpayer at a cost of probably about $1 million.
Do you support Lynden Dorval and his original decision to give zeros to students who didn’t hand in their work?
