A 25-year-old Toronto man, Miguel Oliviera, has been sentenced to three months in jail after being found guilty of a hit-and-run that killed a 35-year-old cyclist.
Two vehicles hit cyclist Tom Samson, who was pronounced dead on the scene. Oliviera kept driving after the crash, but turned himself in 40 hours later.
Oliveira pleaded guilty. Superior Court Justice Faye McWatte said: “Based on the damage to Mr. Oliveira’s vehicle, he had to have known he hit the cyclist who eventually died and that, at the least, the cyclist was injured after the collision.”
