Two 15-year-olds in Windsor, Nova Scotia have been charged by the RCMP with child pornography offences after revealing images of another 15-year-old teenage girl were posted and distributed online.
A 15-year-old girl has been charged with the possession, distribution and publication of child porn, while a 15-year-old boy faces charges of possession and distribution.
Multiple school students discovered three photos posted to a chat website. They informed school administrators who then flagged the police.
The victim and the accused all know each other.
Nova Scotia RCMP Constable Mark Skinner defended the child porn charges, stating that “much of our youth are constantly communicating on their smartphones. We need to ensure they understand the gravity of their actions and the consequences associated to the sharing of intimate images without consent.”
Will a strong response by the authorities quash the sexting craze? Are parents to blame for not properly monitoring their kids’ phone and internet use? Should parents stop buying their kids smartphones that can snap photos and access the internet?
