Things looked good for the Canucks scoring five minutes into the second period to take the lead, as Julien Gauthier, on his knees from a fall, made a pass to a trailing Matt Barzal (New York Islanders), who potted the puck in an open cage.
Other goals for the US came from Colin White (Ottawa Senators) and Zach Werenski (Columbus Blue Jackets) also scored for the Americans with goalie Alex Nedeljkovic (Carolina Hurricanes) made 25 saves for the win.
Dylan Strome (Arizona Coyotes) scored the other Canadian goal. Mason McDonald (Calgary Flames) stopped 21 shots in net.
Meanwhile Toronto Maple Leafs prospect William Nylander took a huge hit to the head from Swiss player Chris Egli, Nylander would have to leave the game while Egli received a game-misconduct.
No word on the extent of Nylander’s condition.
