Lost in the Steve Harvey controversy, is the backlash to Miss Canada’s costume at The Miss Universe pageant.
Canada’s contestant was a Dominican-born Paola Nunez Valdez, who sported a glittery totem pole costume. First Nations people have called her costume cartoonish, like some from a Disney tale or Barbie doll. They also say the dress is a complete misunderstanding of totem poles and First Nations culture.
