City councillor Joe Mihevc wants to issue a dollar-a-day parking levy on commercial parking spaces to help pay for infrastructure projects.
Toronto is facing an operating budget with a 57 million-dollar shortfall, and councillors are trying to find ways to pay for all these projects. Mihevc claims it could be worth upwards of 500 million a year and the city has the legal authority to do this now. Under his plan, commercial landlords will be charged based on the number of parking spaces they own.
But isn’t parking in this city expensive enough?
