The federal government is saying they will adopt all of the recommendations made by The Truth and Reconciliation Commission.
This includes repealing Section 43 of the criminal code that basically makes it legal for parents to spank their child. Groups opposing corporal punishment for children have for years tried to urge the government to repeal Section 43, which permits parents to use reasonable force to correct the behaviour of a child in their care. Opening parents up to the prosecution of disciplining their children will likely hit some opposition in Parliament.
