Toronto City councillors have voted themselves a two percent raise for the New Year.
Under the proposed budget for 2016, councillors will get a cost of living raise equivalent to the Consumer Price Index. Forty-four city councillors already make close to 110 thousand dollars a year, while Mayor John Tory makes over 180 thousand dollars. Councillors have received annual raises in each of the last ten years except 2011, when they voted for a salary freeze.
Is there anything wrong with a cost of living increase? Do you get one? Or do have to earn an increase?
