There are reports that many landlords across Ontario are turning down applications from privately-sponsored Syrian refugees.
CP24 writes HERE that landlords are wary about providing shelter to individuals and families that have no jobs or history with a bank or credit card company.
Some landlords have asked for banking information from sponsors, but even then many are still rejected. Others erroneously believe that privately-sponsored refugees are receiving monthly cheques from the government.
Landlords are also asking for for up to twelve months’ rent in advance, an approach which goes against Ontario rental regulations created by the Landlord and Tenant Board.
